Msgr. Cunningham touched the lives of many in Forest Hills over his 60 years of priestly ministry, beginning at Our Lady of Mercy and ending at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs. As Bishop Sanchez said in his homily during the Vigil Mass of Transferral, “How lucky we are to have known him.” Bishop Emeritus of Brooklyn Nicholas DiMarzio concelebrated the Mass on October 16, 2023, at our church. Msgr. Cunningham funeral Mass on October 17 was at St. Gregory the Great R.C. Church, where he previously served as pastor, and he was buried at St John’s Cemetery in Middle Village. May he rest in the peace of Christ, the Risen Lord.
