This standard Holy Day Mass schedule sometimes varies. Holy Days of Obligation that are national holidays (such as Christmas) generally follow the weekend Mass schedule. Watch for special announcements about the Mass schedule for a Holy Day. Primary Holy Days of Obligation and Solemnities in the United States are:

  • January 1, Solemnity of Mary Mother of God
  • May 30, Ascension Thursday
  • August 15, Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
  • November 1, All Saints
  • December 9, Immaculate Conception (usually a Holy Day but not in 2019. Since December 8, 2019, is the Second Sunday of Advent, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary transfers to Monday the 9th, but the obligation to attend Mass does not transfer, according to the USCCB liturgical calendar.)
  • December 25, Christmas (Nativity of the Lord)

Liturgical Calendar

2019 Liturgical Calendar for the Dioceses of the United States of America (published by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops) has details on the principal church celebrations and Scripture readings for the year.
