Anointing of the Sick

An anointing is a ceremonial action performed by the Church; through anointing, a person obtains the benefit of divine grace. The Church uses three oils for anointing: the oil of chrism, the oil of catechumens and the oil of the sick. The anointing with oil of the sick is used to support those who seek healing. It can be requested by anyone seeking healing of body, mind or spirit.

If you have a family member or friend in the hospital that would like to receive the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, you need only call the rectory office (718-268-6251) to make a request.

In an emergency (for last rites, after office hours), please call 718-810-9788.

The home bound and parishioners in nursing homes should also receive this sacrament as well as Holy Communion. Anointing of all nursing home parishioners is done during our summer Masses at the nursing homes.

Once a year, on or near the observance of World Day of the Sick and the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, Our Lady Queen of Martyrs also offers a Mass with a communal opportunity for the reception of the Sacrament of the Anointing  of the Sick.
