On April 29, 2025, the NY State Assembly passed a bill to legalize physician-assisted suicide. The Senate may vote next.
Senate Bill 138 would let doctors prescribe lethal medication to end a patient’s life. Lawmakers need to hear from constituents to reject this dangerous practice. Assisted suicide endangers patients, caregivers, and vulnerable patients, especially the elderly and those with disabilities, and undermines the dignity of life. Suicide is not medical care.
The Catholic Action Network and bishops of New York State encourage parishioners to contact your NYS Senator and urge them to oppose this bill. A phone call is recommended as one of the most effective ways to get our message heard.
