The Catholic Church stands firmly against human trafficking, which is a horrific crime against the basic dignity and rights of the human person. Every effort must be made to stop it.
We urge everyone to participate in a private prayer effort during January, National Human Trafficking Prevention Month, by reciting a novena for victims of slavery and human trafficking. Let us lift our voices and hearts and invoke the intercession of St. Josephine Bakhita for all persecuted and enslaved brothers and sisters.
Additionally, members of our Catholic Teaching committee have arranged free movie screenings of Sound of Freedom. Open discussions following the film will allow reflection and meaningful exchange on this unsettling issue. Wallet-sized information cards and keychains will be handed out that you can carry with you as a reminder to be vigilant and prepared to report suspected trafficking cases. Become a SHEPHERD and do what you can to Stop Human Trafficking and Exploitation. Protect, Help, Empower, and Restore Dignity.
