With a heavy heart, we announce that our beloved Monsignor Joseph L. Cunningham, senior priest in residence, died on October 12, 2023. We will have a viewing and Mass of Transferral, celebrated by Bishop Sanchez, in our church on Monday evening, October 16.

Funeral Mass will be at St. Gregory the Great R.C. Church at 11AM. St. Gregory’s is located at 242-20 88th Ave., Bellerose, Tel: 718-347-3707, followed by burial at St John’s Cemetery in Middle Village.
Fr. Cunningham was assigned to Our Lady of Mercy Parish in Forest Hills when he was first ordained in 1963. He was director of the office of Liturgy in the Brooklyn/Queen Diocese for many years and later served as rector of St. Vincent’s Seminary in Florida. Upon returning to the diocese, Fr. Cunningham was named pastor of Saint Gregory the Great Parish in Bellerose, where he served for many years before his retirement. He was residing with us in the OLQM rectory and was named Monsignor in March 2020 by Bishop DiMarzio.
Please pray for the repose of Msgr. Cunningham’s soul and for the consolation of his family and friends. May he rest in the peace of Christ, the Risen Lord.
