In light of the recent disturbing events in our nation, we unite our hearts with the sentiments expressed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Bishop DiMarzio encourages us: “We Christians must be fierce in our opposition to the evil of racism. But we must respond peacefully and remember the Lord’s call to us to love one another as He loves us.”
Other Bishops offer these thoughts:
We need to finally root out the racial injustice that still infects too many areas of American society. . . . We join our brother bishops to challenge everyone to come together, particularly with those who are from different cultural backgrounds. In this encounter, let us all seek greater understanding amongst God’s people. . . . Let each and every Catholic, regardless of their ethnicity, beg God to heal our deeply broken view of each other, as well as our deeply broken society.
Please join us in prayer for all those who work to promote racial equality and human dignity.—Bishop Sanchez
