During these two weeks, the liturgical calendar celebrates the many great martyrs and courageous forebears who remained faithful in the face of persecution by political power—St. Thomas More and St. John Fisher, St. John the Baptist, Saints Peter and Paul, and the First Martyrs of the Church of Rome. The U.S. Conference for Catholic Bishops (USCCB) asks Catholic parishes to raise awareness of religious freedom concerns, and makes available many resources:
