Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. (Genesis 3:19)
Ash Wednesday is the first day of Lent. It is a day of fasting and abstinence. Ashes will be distributed at the following liturgies only:
8 AM Mass
12:05 PM Mass
4 PM Prayer Service
7:30 PM Mass
To minimize the risk of spreading disease, the method of distributing ashes will be different this year. Ashes will be sprinkling over the head of each person who comes forward, rather than applied to each person’s forehead in a sign of the cross. This method, while new to us, is within the tradition of the Church and is common practice in Italy and the Vatican.
You can refrain from receiving ashes if you are feeling unwell.
During Lent, we will have weekly prayers, a series of Lenten Sunday Prayer Services, and recommendations for at-home activities. Please read more about our Lenten programs and activities.
When attending services in church, please continue to follow the public health protocols. Masks must be worn and social distancing observed (no more than three people per pew).
