A tradition at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs is the annual performance of the Theodore Dubois’ “Seven Last Words of Christ” on Good Friday. The OLQM Choir will perform this beautiful musical work at the 7:30 p.m. liturgy on April 14.

Good Friday 2017 program (2-page pdf)

The “Seven Last Words of Christ” are the final seven phrases that Jesus spoke from the cross during his crucifixion. The seven statements (sung in Latin) are:

1. Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do. (Luke 23:34)
2. Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise. (Luke 23:43)
3. Woman, behold your son. (John 19:26)
4. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Matthew 27:46; Mark 15:34)
5. I thirst.(John 19:28)
6. Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.(Luke 23:46)
7. It is finished. (John 19:30)
